Plans for the new Niverville high school are taking shape with the Hanover School Division kicking off the tendering process.

As previously announced, the location for the new school opens up the opportunity for a community campus including the school as well as the Town of Niverville’s proposed community resource centre, previously dubbed the Niverville multiplex.

The Hanover School Division has announced that, at the request of the Town of Niverville, they will split the construction of the new school into two phases to support Niverville as they seek funding for the community resource centre. The first phase will be completed in September 2019 and will include everything but the drama room, band room, and child-care facilities. All spaces not built in the first phase will be completed by 2020.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says this phased building plan opens up the opportunity for the Town of Niverville to add these spaces into funding applications for their proposed community resource centre.

"What we have here is an opportunity for the scope of the project to be enhanced. We look at the needs for Niverville and the things that are listed there. There are opportunities for grants and funding and what this does is it enables the Town of Niverville to look at some of those opportunities."

The Hanover School Division says this partnership with the Town of Niverville and their community resource centre strengthens community ownership and provides additional value for public funding.

Dyck says town council is very pleased with their partnership with the Hanover School Division as well as the Province of Manitoba and the federal government.

"We very much appreciate the working relationship, we have been able to meet face to face with them. Through all partners coming to the table and being able to sit down and have discussions, we are pretty excited about all that this will be for our community."

The new high school will serve 450 grade 9-12 students and have an expansion capacity of up to 550.
