The Town of Niverville held an open house at the Niverville Arena Thursday evening to show residents their proposed plans for future Main Street improvements.

Councilor Nathan Dueck says over the past few months the town has met with Manitoba Infrastructure and a group of engineers to discuss the long-term future of Provincial Road 311 within Niverville.

Dueck says Manitoba Infrastructure sees a need for major improvements to three main intersections.

"One being Krahn Road where they have proposed a round-about, 5th Avenue and Main Street where they have proposed street lights which we hope to get in fairly shortly as long as everything goes through with the province, and then lastly with 6th Avenue and 311 there too with another different design and a round-about."

Dueck says along with traffic flow improvements the town also presented plans for Main Street Beautification, Boulevards, and bike paths. He notes at this point, they do not know what all of these plans will cost, but the town is encouraged by the interest from Manitoba Infrastructure and optimistic they would get funding.

Dueck says over the past week they have been able to present these plans to the chamber of commerce, the residents that live off Main Street, as well as those who attended the open house.

"I would say that we had a good solid 200 people walk through and give us opinions or say good things or bad things about everything. There are people that are encouraged by it, there are people that have concerns about the plans and we appreciate hearing from those people as well because when we do something we want to make sure that it is done properly."

Dueck says the vast majority of the people who attended the open house gave positive feedback. He notes it is important to hear from the residents because they deserve to have a say in what happens on Main Street over the next 5 to 10 years.
