The residents of Niverville will pay an extra $7.81 per household this year to cover landfill costs.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says town council had to add the waste levy to cover higher than expected fees.

“What we have seen in terms of waste for our community is that there was an increase from the landfill in their fees per ton and then we also had a slight increase in the tonnage from our community. If you put those two amounts together and you divvy them up between all of the property owners you have the increase that council passed today being the $7.81.”

Dyck says the Town of Niverville will be switching to recycling tilt carts this coming year which will hopefully help reduce the landfill expenses.

“We are hoping that we will see more going into the recycling containers thereby lowering our tonnage that is going to the landfill and reducing that cost.”
