Sixth Avenue South is in the process of being rebuiltWith municipal elections coming up in fall, the mayor of Niverville says council will spend 2018 wrapping up as many projects as they can.

Myron Dyck says when council was elected in fall of 2014, they set out to do many things and it is now time to finalize their plans.

“You’re not able to finish everything, some things are just perpetual and ongoing but there is a definite mindset to wrap up what we have started here so that the next council, whatever their mandate is, they can go ahead and do that without being burdened by some of the things that are currently in process.”

Dyck says there are a number of exciting projects that council is looking forward to in 2018 including ground being broken for the new high school in March.

“We are going to continue with phase two of Sixth Avenue, we are going to continue with our sidewalk restoration project, and we started rebuilding our ball diamonds, we have done three and we have one to do. We continue to work on the policing matter, obviously, that is front and centre for our community so there is still work ongoing on that.”

Dyck notes the new water source should also be coming online this spring.

“Very excited about the water plant up and running, it is supposed to be done by March. That is something that is going to meet such a huge demand for this community. It is going to allow us to grow, it is going to set us up for years to come.”
