Niverville Mayor Myron DyckNiverville Town Council has approved a new four-stage water restrictions bylaw.

The new water restrictions bylaw has four stages. The first stage is always in effect and has no restrictions, during the second stage residents can only water on even or odd days depending on their civic address, with a stage three restriction residents can only do handheld watering with buckets or watering cans, and a stage four restriction is a total water ban.

Mayor Myron Dyck says over the last few years the town has had to ask residents to either water lawns and gardens on alternating days based on address numbers or implement a blanket watering ban. He notes with the new water source supplying the town water system, they don’t think they will need to use their new water restrictions bylaw anytime soon but says this is a great time to implement to the new policy.

"Rather do it now than leave it and then a council in 20 years when Niverville is at a stage of growth again where they are pushing up against the tap and then they are like ‘what do we do?’ We are saying ‘ it is fresh in our minds right now, let’s put it in the policy book', and then at such at time as it may be needed down the road, council at least has something to review in their planning session."

Dyck says hope they don't have to use this bylaw for a long, long time. He notes in the case of increased water restrictions residents would be informed of what is and is not allowed.
