Main Street NivervilleNiverville Town Council has passed a vehicles-for-hire bylaw that sets clear policies for any ride-share or taxi service that would like to set up in town.

Mayor Myron Dyck says recently a local resident came forward and wanted to know if they would be able to set up either a ride-share or a taxi service.

“In order to do that we looked into our policies and bylaws and procedures and realized that there were things that we needed to write in order to provide a proper platform so that someone could apply and know then what that would entail such as making sure that vehicles are safetied and these kinds of things.”

Dyck says passing the vehicles-for-hire bylaw does not mean there will be a service set up immediately but it does pave the way for future businesses.

“There is a business opportunity here for someone but in order to have this kind of business opportunity, when it comes to vehicles, what kind of vehicles are going to be used and to be able to set the parameters so that people that then want to use these businesses services would know that their best interests are in mind.”

Dyck notes with the bylaw in place, those that are interested in setting up a ride-share or taxi service in Niverville know what they are getting into.
