After years of hard work by Niverville Town Council and the Hanover School Division, a new high school is set to be built in Niverville.

That according to Mayor Myron Dyck. The province gave Hanover School Division the green light to proceed with plans for a new high school on Friday. Dyck says this has been a priority in Niverville for a number of years.

"This has been much needed and has been a project of council, even before this mandate, working toward seeing the need. Council is obviously very happy to hear this announcement and we look forward to hearing more details about it."

Dyck says even though there hadn't yet been any official comments, town council had been hearing rumors about a new school and wasn't altogether surprised by the announcement.

"We see the huts at the high school, we see the number of children that we have in the elementary school, we have had constant communication with the Hanover School Division, they have been very forthcoming on providing us with that information and so as you see the population grow, you knew that sooner or later something like this was going to happen."

The new school will accommodate 450 students from grades 9 to 12.
