The Piney Pinecreek Airport is the only bi-national airport in all of Canada, says the Reeve for the RM of Piney.

Wayne Anderson says the province contributes $2,400 in funding annually and the municipality also contributes $2,400 because they've seen the benefit of its existence.

"Mostly what I've heard it used for is for transport of patients from Roseau hospital to Winnipeg. Sometimes the ambulance will take patients there and a fixed-wing aircraft from Winnipeg takes them from there onto Winnipeg."

Anderson notes an agreement was signed a number of years ago, which is coming to an end in the next couple years.

"They're wondering if it's going to continue or change or be rebuilt or what's going to happen."

He adds the municipality has seen the need for keeping it and continuing to contribute to it.

According to Airport Master Records and Reports, the Piney Pinecreek Border Airport sees about 3,000 general aviation aircraft operations per year, which averages 250 per month.
