The Town of Ste. Anne has been growing quickly, and the Police Chief says it's nice to see new people moving into the community.

Even with a 30% growth in population over the last five years, Marc Robichaud says crime in the area has not increased. "It's a small community and we have that small town feel here, so neighbours certainly watch out for one another. People here are pretty quick to call the police if they see something outside of the norm."

Officers are involved in the community and make themselves quite visible, which Robichaud says makes a difference. "We are involved in proactive patrols within the community so being out and about; getting to know people in our community is important to us and is very valuable."

Robichaud says local officers are involved in the schools through the D.A.R.E program, and since he's been the Police Chief in town for eight years, he's had the opportunity to get to know many of the young people, who may now be graduating.

He adds for some people, moving from a big city to a small town, which is the case for many newcomers to the area, can be an adjustment. "We are quick to stop and talk with people, and that might not happen in bigger areas because the Police are busier. In Ste. Anne, we might stop to chat if we see you on the side of the road, it's not always Police related or crime related."
