Council for the RM of Ste. Anne is reviewing the boundaries on a few of its wards.

Reeve Art Bergmann explains because this is an election year, their wards need to be more aligned in terms of population.

"So when we examined this last spring, we found that we were actually somewhat lopsided and so we’ve made boundary changes that will fit into the equation that the province has for us and that we think should serve our residents well."

Bergmann says the La Coulee area as well the Loewen Boulevard area have seen a number of subdivisions over the last few years as well as an increase in population and adds they will now diminish in size.

"In consequence wards, one and five would be larger in the area that they cover and some of the other wards would be smaller. In some ways it’s a little bit academic because we don’t have ward appropriations, we work within a global budget but in terms of the represented area by the councillors, this is what is reflected in the ward boundaries as well as when it comes to elections, which people will have the opportunity to vote for which councillor."

Bergmann adds a public hearing was held in late February and he says residents were not opposed to the changes. He notes the project has passed first and second reading and is now off to the province for final review before it is passed.
