The RM of Stuartburn has declared a state of emergency.

“You look and it’s just fields of water,” says Chief Administrative Officer Lucie Maynard.

Maynard says they have received reports that anywhere from four to ten inches of rain fell in the Arbakka area resulting in a number of washed-out roads.

“We’re trying to close them as quickly as possible and putting up barricades,” says Maynard, “but we’re running out, so we may borrow some from neighbouring municipalities.”

Maynard says residents in Vita are out sandbagging to save homes and hopes forecasts calling for more rain are wrong.

“We’re just advising residents to be cautious when driving on some of our roads,” says Maynard, “and be patient, everybody is underwater.”
