Motorists heading down Highway #59 can expect some delays over the next week and a half. Brett Wareham is Director Of Regional Operations with Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation. He says construction crews are working on the stretch of pavement from Highway #52 to the start of the four lane near Provincial Road 210.

Wareham says they're doing a preservation treatment called micro-surfacing. The treatment fixes the ruts before a thin new layer of asphalt is poured. "We expect to get another seven to ten years out of that treatment," notes Wareham.

Work on the project began Monday and should last eight to twelve days according to Wareham.

Due to the nature of the project, one lane of traffic will be closed at a time, resulting in vehicles being piloted. Wareham says travel delays of five to ten minutes can be anticipated. "I think they can do about five kilometres in one day in terms of quantity," says Wareham.

Meanwhile, construction will soon wind down along PR 206 east of Landmark. As you may remember, that road which once was gravel is being paved. "That project actually started last fall," says Wareham. "They laid the base course last fall, or most of it. And then the pavement they applied it this spring." Traffic along that road is currently being directed by flagmen.

Wareham says weather permitting, crews should be done the main paving portion in the next week or two, weather permitting. Following that there will be another 7-14 days of cleanup. This involves tying in highway approaches and some intersection paving at PR 206.

Wareham reminds motorists to please slow down and use caution when approaching any construction zone.
