The Reeve of Hanover says there are plans to extend Rock Ridge Drive in Blumenort all the way to Penner Drive.

Rock Ridge Drive is located at the south end of Rock Ridge Development, which is south of Provincial Road 311. According to Stan Toews, the developer would like to expand that development. But because Barkman Street is already too congested, the only way for Blumenort to grow further south is if another road is built into that development.

Toews explains the road extension will be about a quarter mile long. He says the plan is for this road to be paved.

"Developer will be paying for most of it," says Toews. "It's just a matter of who builds it. If Hanover has to build it then we'll charge it back as the developer develops his lots."

Toews suggests once the project is finalized, the work will probably be done either this summer or fall.

Meanwhile, the new Blumenort fire hall is expected to open in 2019 along Penner Drive. Toews says once that hall opens, the extension of Rock Ridge Drive will allow fire trucks quicker access into Rock Ridge Development should there ever be an emergency there.
