Organizers of a fundraising concert Saturday night in Randolph say the event was a huge success.

"Rockin' For A Reason" took place at Neufeld Garage. Melanie Bergen and the band RBB took the stage in support of Steinbach Community Outreach and more specifically Today House. Today House is an emergency overnight shelter in Steinbach.

Irene Kroeker of Today House says she sees a lot of people that don't have a place to call home. But she notes they see a lot of gratitude.

"A lot of relief when we are able to place them, get them places to live and stock their fridges and do all the things that everybody else has," explains Kroeker.

Organizers had a goal of raising $5,000. But before the concert even started, their total sat at $8,000 just through sponsorships. Kroeker says by the end of the night they had collected more than $16,000.

"It's a lot of work to put an event like this together but it's so inspiring when people say yeah I want to be part of that, there's a cause," says Steve Neufeld of RBB. "As musicians we love to play and if we can play with a purpose behind it, it just makes it so much more fun."

Organizers are already discussing holding a similar event next year.
