Steinbach Credit Union's Chief Executive Officer says it was "a busy 2018."

Glenn Friesen announced at Tuesday's 77th annual general meeting that the credit union, just recently, has reached $6 billion in assets.

"It was a very good year for us," says Friesen who noted SCU's assets grew by 8.47 percent in 2018.

SCU maintains its status as the largest credit union in Manitoba and Friesen says they are inching closer to the sixth largest in Canada. Friesen notes they added 6,562 new members last year. Deposits increased by 8.27 percent and there was a near 12 percent increase in loans.

Members who attended were also pleased to hear the news of $7.5 million in member bonuses, for the third year in a row, which are to be deposited this Friday.

As promised at the 2018 AGM, Friesen adds they introduced a number of digital products for their members over the past year.

"I think the strong growth was a very positive thing, we need growth to keep on developing what we need to do and 2019 there's lots of challenges, like we mentioned, that are out there that are unknowns but I think we're going to deal with them extremely well," he adds, "so I'm quite excited for 2019."

Reg Penner, Robert Penner and Amanda Peters were all re-elected to the board of directors. The board elected Reg Penner as its Chairman, Henry Van de Velde as first Vice-Chair and Maria Reimer as second Vice-Chair.
