La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says a young male driver can thank his seat belt for saving his life Thursday night. Nadeau says they were called out around 8 p.m. to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on Provincial Road 210, about one mile north of La Broquerie.

"It was a young driver who was trying to pass a car. He was southbound and tried to pass a car that was going 100 KM/H and he lost control. And he flipped end-over-end in a corn field."

Nadeau says the vehicle launched into the air and flew about 150 feet before coming down hard on its nose and then continuing to flip end-over-end.

"If you want an example of how speed kills and how a seat belt might save your life, well, he was very lucky because the seatbelt saved his life here. The truck ended up it was two feet shorter."

Nadeau says no one at the scene could believe the driver walked away from the crash.

"We couldn't believe it. Even the people who stopped by couldn't believe the guy walked out of that truck. He had almost no injuries, just a seatbelt strap (bruise) and I'm sure he'll be bruised a little bit here and there. But he's just lucky to be alive."
