Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision Thursday morning near Vassar.

It happened shortly after eight o'clock, along Highway 12, about half a kilometre east of the Vassar access road.

Sprague RCMP say an SUV rear-ended a semi trailer. Police note poor visibility was a factor in the crash.

The 20-year-old male from Winnipeg driving the SUV and his 43-year-old female passenger from the RM of Piney suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Extrication was required. Both individuals were transported to hospital in Roseau, Minnesota.

Police say the 32-year-old male from Elma driving the semi was not hurt.

The investigation continues.
