Residents in the Southland Estates area in Steinbach, living on Clearwater Avenue will be getting a new sidewalk this summer.

Phil Kalyta, the city's head engineer says a sidewalk will be put in, from Southpark Drive to Biscayne Drive on the north side of Clearwater Avenue. “We are going to do that whole stretch there so the residents in that area have a linkage to the Southpark sidewalk system.”

The City's Water Works Department has identified a few water mains and sewer lines that are in need of repair and will reconstruct them this summer. Kalyta says the main areas they will focus on include Chrysler Gate from Chapel Drive to Southpark Drive, Oak Crescent, Wilson Avenue from Kroeker Avenue to Goossen Avenue, Fourth Street from Reimer Avenue to Lumber Avenue, as well as Sunrise Bay.

Kalyta says, “We'll be shutting down the water mains so we can do our work, and we'll be feeding the homes with a temporary water supply above ground so they will never be out of t water. We do this quite often every year so we've got a good system in place to keep the residents supplied with water.”

Phase two of the Main Street intersection repairs will continue this summer with unistone and pavement slab work at Kroeker Avenue and Friesen Avenue. “We are hoping to get those intersection repairs done this year, and maybe even Elm Avenue, and the Elmdale School crosswalk. That project is out for tender so we'll see how the prices come in.”

Kalyta hopes the intersection work will be done before Summer in the City. But if not, because crews will be working around festivals and other summer projects, he says the work will be complete for the Pioneer Days Parade.
