A resident in Steinbach called 911 when they noticed a smokey haze in their basement.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Mike Penner, says the alarm call came in around 1:30 am Monday. "When we arrived, there was a light haze of smoke and it turned out to be heat generated from a baseboard heater, probably some dust or debris on it. At that point, we turned the breaker off and made sure there was no power to the unit."

Penner adds the occupant opened some windows to clear out the haze.
