The Progressive Conservative candidate in La Verendrye says the riding has been altered considerably for the September 10th provincial election. Dennis Smook, who is seeking a third term, says the boundaries of his riding are a lot different this time due to re-alignment by the Manitoba Electoral Boundaries Commission.

Dennis Smook"When I first got elected in 2011, La Verendrye was a brand new riding. In 2011 and 2016, I had the same constituency. Now, this year, it's changed. I've lost the area north of the Trans-Canada Highway and I've gained the RM of De Salaberry and more of the RM of Hanover."

Smook says he is busy criss-crossing the constituency, meeting with voters. He adds the issues are familiar.

"One of the issues in southeastern Manitoba since I first got elected, and it's not going away yet, even though there have been some improvements, is cell phone service and internet service. This has always been important. Also, there are issues with the roads and health services."

Smook says he is committed to continuing to work hard on behalf of constituents to tackle these things. He also notes that his party has honoured the commitments it made in the 2016 election.

"We ran on a number of different promises and we kept them. Rolling back the PST, lowering the ambulance fees, all that is important to people because it puts more money on the kitchen table instead of the Cabinet table."
