The head of Southeast Sno-Riders says the snow earlier this week was a welcome sight. Mitch Gobeil says their full trail system had been open for a few weeks but conditions were not ideal. He says all that changed this week, noting they got a significant amount of snow across the whole area.

Gobeil adds they groomed all of their trails this week and expect a busy weekend.

Justin Rempel of the Voyageur Trail Grooming Association, which maintains trails along Highway #59 and area, agrees.

"We've had tonnes of snow lately which is fantastic for snowmobilers. Our trails are looking really, really good. We've got our groomer givin' er seven days a week right now, trying to catch up and get some good trails out there for everybody to use."

Rempel says with the new snow this week, they were finally to groom and open their entire trail network.

Meanwhile, Gobeil says business has really picked up at fuel and food stops along the trail system.

"It has of late, after the cold snap. The ones that I speak to the most, because I live in South 2019 02 snowmobiles1Junction, so I talk to the Co-op located in South Junction, I was told that last Saturday there were 50 snowmobiles parked there at one time. When I was there, it was about 30. So it is obvious the traffic has picked up."
