Some residents of Blumenort have been noticing discolouration of their water in recent days.

The Rural Municipality of Hanover has issued a statement on behalf of Friesen Drillers. It says...

For the past week or two, we have been drilling a replacement well into the Winnipeg Formation sandstone for Granny's Poultry in Blumenort. This well is really to replace an existing well that had a screen problem that developed over time. Granny's currently draws groundwater from the lower aquifer, which is the Winnipeg Formation, and they have been doing this for more than 50 years.

When you drill through the limestone aquifer with compressed air, it is possible that there can be some disturbance in the fractures of the limestone formation. This is fairly rare, but it can occur even when drilling a domestic water well in a small subdivision. Usually it is just a bit of colour in the water that results. Due to the distances involved, most times the well settles almost immediately with no issues at all.

Most of the houses located nearest the new well site on Granny's yard consist of 4 houses on one well. So, it is possible that you could see only one or two wells affecting multiple homes.

We did receive a call or two (Monday) night regarding this, and we attended these houses (Tuesday). I am told that we blew out two of these wells, and that the people we dealt with were satisfied.

If there are any other issues, please let us know and we can deal with this as soon as possible. The fix for this is usually very simple, and can get sorted out easily.

We apologize for any issues this has caused the RM.
