The new sound system was delivered and installed Wednesday afternoon.

The MJHL Playoffs will begin within the next week, and the home of the Steinbach Pistons is ready for them.

On Wednesday, a new sound system was installed in the Centennial Arena at the TG Smith Centre.  John Loewen of Sound Art says the upgrade was overdue.

"It was in a state of disrepair.  It was the kind of thing where it was probably improperly put together for its purpose.  It just didn't have the systems in place to protect it and keep it running for a long period of time."

Loewen notes the new system should provide a significant upgrade.

"The new system is designed to be nice, clear and punchy and actually get away with lower volume and better clarity.  So we don't have to turn it excessively loud to get more clarity out of it, it should be clearer at a lower volume."

Wayne LeMay was the subcontractor for Sound Art and did some of the speaker installation on the ceiling of the arena.  He describes what the experience was like.

"It's high and it's cold, but it's not as cold as working outside.  With the scissor lift, the process goes okay.  It's very dusty, there are lots of cobwebs up in the ceiling, and I retrieved at least 30 pucks in just the small area I was working in."

The new system has speakers for both the crowd and coaches and players involved in the games.  There will be four speakers dedicated to the players and coaches, making it easy for them to hear what is being said while on-ice.  However, those speakers haven't been installed yet as they have yet to arrive.
