For the first time in 13 years, voters in St. Pierre have a decision to make on Wednesday.

A by-election is being held Wednesday for the open seat on council that was vacated in late November when Francine Roy resigned.

Justin Kehler and Darryl Harder are the two candidates vying for the spot. Both candidates say they would like to help kick start residential development in St. Pierre as it has been at a standstill for a few years now. Kehler shares his vision for St. Pierre.

"I'm hoping to help, along with the rest of council, to help expand and grow St. Pierre. We have kind of been at a stall here for a few years and there are a few ideas that I got for helping the subdivisions get going and maybe helping with some tax breaks on new homes just to promote building."

Harder hopes to see some residential development get started as well as economic development.

"I would like to see some more businesses move to town. The population is growing slowly but I think there's a few hurdles to get over to keep it growing continuously."

Both Kehler and Harder encourage village residents to go vote because it is their right and is often taken for granted.

Harder explains why he decided to put his name forward.

"Well there weren't many candidates stepping up to the plate and I was approached to run and I gave it some thought so I figured why not?"

Kehler says for him it's all about giving back.

"Just to give back to the community. I was asked by a couple people to put my name in and after some consideration and thought between me and my wife, we decided that this was a good opportunity to help give back into the community."

According to the village, the polls will be open Wednesday from 8am to 8pm at the village office in St. Pierre.
