The head of Parks and Recreation in Steinbach says the city will soon have to spend a significant amount of cash on the aquatic centre. Russ Dyck says it is in need of some major maintenance and upgrades.

"This facility is 15 years old now and, going forward, we'll have to look at addressing some issues. Pools are typically a more corrosive environment than a lot of other facilities so items like repainting the ceiling, new light fixtures, lockers, change rooms, etcetera."

Dyck says the city has engaged consulting firm Stantec which will develop a full report on required upgrades which will then be presented to city council.
