The Steinbach Community Foundation is holding a 24 Hour Giving Challenge this coming Saturday.

Patti Fries is the Steinbach Community Foundation Board Chair. She says they are a sort of umbrella organization that raises money and gives grants to local charitable organizations. She notes they are taking part in the 24 Hour Giving Challenge alongside other community foundations in Manitoba.

"We are part of a larger picture as well. It is the province with all of their community foundations setting this up on November 17th so it is all of the communities like Portage and Carmen and Selkirk. It is spearheaded by the Winnipeg Foundation and we are all very closely linked with the Winnipeg Foundation."

She says recently they have given grants to organizations like Youth For Christ, Serving Seniors Incorporated, and Steinbach Housing. Fries says Saturday is a great time to give because your money will go a little further.

"The nice part about this all is that for every $5 you give, there is another $2 added, one dollar by the Province of Manitoba and another dollar by the Winnipeg Foundation so $5 very quickly grows into $7 so if you are giving $50 it's $70 and it really helps."

Fries says donations on Saturday can be made online at endowmanitoba.ca and in person at the Steinbach Community Foundation table that will be set up at Canadian Tire on Saturday. She also reminds charitable organizations that the deadline to apply for grants is coming up on December 15th.
