The mayor of Steinbach says city council will have to look at their long-term vision for the Steinbach Airport in the coming years.

Mayor Chris Goertzen made that comment following his monthly open door Friday morning. He notes a number of people came in to talk about a variety of issues, and the future of Steinbach's two airports was one of them.

"It is a good question and it is something that council will have to look at over the next while to create a vision for where we have the airports, whether we continue to maintain the one that we have or whether we choose to move in a different direction and maybe combining the private and public airports for the long-term goal for the city."

Goertzen says another topic of discussion was the City of Steinbach's plan for celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday. He notes Canada Day celebrations will be bigger than normal this year.

"Besides the bigger and better fireworks that we are going to have this year, we are also going to have the food truck festival on the Thursdays of July to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday and a number of other smaller things that are going to be going on in the community. Certainly, July 1 will be a big day starting off at the museum and ending with some great fireworks."

Goertzen says the mosaic mural that was created by hundreds of Steinbach residents last year will also make it's way around the community as part of the celebrations.
