Candidates for mayor in Steinbach are making their final pitch to voters before they head to the ballot box on Wednesday.

Earl Funk says he wants to work toward better recreational facilities but adds the plan must be one that will get the support of a majority of council. "100% of my focus will be for our community and that means my priority will be to keep taxes low. Another priority of mine will be to create jobs and drive economic development together, says Funk as he outlines what he wants voters to remember about his commitments as they prepare to make their choice.

"Recreation renewal is another important one and I do want to create recreation in our community and renew the facilities that are aging but I also want to do it in a very realistic manner and in a manner that will revitalize our entire city."

Candidate Paul Neustaedter says what he brings to the table is leadership and vision.

"I've been advocating that I will be listening and I've been advocating for a safe community, for infrastructure, these things are important," notes Neustaedter who indicates he will advocate for economic development, growth and bringing good manufacturing jobs to Steinbach. "

"I've also been the advocate of a very clear vision going forward for a multiplex that's for the community. That includes not just one type of a team but it includes an events centre, it includes recreation, it includes arts and culture," Neustaedter adds.

John Fehr believes that in order for Steinbach to be competitive, the city must provide facilities that it does not currently have, by example, an events centre which Fehr indicates should be done in phases.

"I believe that we can start the process of an events centre without raising our taxes," says Fehr who says he has a plan to do that.

"I will lead by continuing to make our city safer for residents, including the sidewalk linking Clearspring Greens to the rest of the city. We will continue to work at eliminating red tape for our developers because they are fuel for our growth," says Fehr.

Voting begins on Wednesday morning at 8am.
