Any hope of mitigating the Stuartburn flood lay in the strength of its volunteer base.

Councillor Konrad Narth says the RM may not be able to control the weather, but by working together, municipal crews, firefighters, local residents, and volunteers can prevent as much damage as possible.

“We’ve seen good efforts wiped out in the past couple of days but we’ve also seen good efforts be very successful at saving people’s homes and livelihoods.”

water levels on the Rat River were still rising by almost a foot every hour, bringing with it an increasing sense of urgency.

“If people are willing and able to help, we could use all sorts of assistance out here,” he says.

Narth asks anyone willing to lend a hand or even make food for the many individuals working tirelessly to protect homes and roadways from the floodwaters to contact the RM of Stuartburn Office.
