Despite the rainy weather this weekend, New Bothwell, Blumenort, and La Broquerie are all celebrating with fairs this weekend.

Karen Hopkins is the Chair of the Blumenort Fair Committee. She says they kicked off the festivities with a movie for the kids Friday night, then started back up Saturday morning with breakfast and their parade. She notes the afternoon was filled with activities for the kids all day and wrapped up with Fireworks. She adds it is important for Blumenort to get together to celebrate.

"It brings us together, everybody here knows everybody anyway so this is a really good opportunity to see people you haven't seen in a while, to have family come out, just get to see each other and talk and just have a good time and it really builds community spirit. It builds that bonding that we have as a small town."

Veronica Gerbrandt, an organizer of the New Bothwell Fair says they held a car show and had a lot of family games and activities organized. She notes the fair gives everyone in New Bothwell an opportunity to get to know new residents and keep old friendships alive.

Christian Normandeau is an organizer with La Broquerie's Saint-Jean-Baptist Day. He says their plans all went ahead as planned despite the rain, even the baseball tournament Saturday afternoon. He adds this is a special year for Saint-Jean-Baptist Day.

"It is a big day because it is 120 years for Saint-Jean-Baptiste but also it is a great community event and it gives a chance for anyone to participate. It is a community event that celebrates the people of the town but also the Francophones of La Broquerie as well."
