The board chair of Today House says she was overwhelmed by the support they received at the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue this Wednesday.

We were able to raise $1,859 for Today House at our second Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue of the year.

Today House Board Chair Simone Penner accepts donationBoard Chair Simone Penner says this money will go a long way to helping the homeless in our community.

"We just hired some new house parents so it will help with funding our operations. It is a general fund. We rely totally on donations. We have no grants, no government funding so that is the way it is."

Penner says in addition to the much-needed funding, the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue creates valuable awareness so that when people see someone that needs a place to stay, they know who to call.

"We shelter the homeless in Steinbach, we have a bungalow in a residential area that we can accommodate up to four guests per night if need be and we offer them safety and a meal and comfort for one night, two nights, three nights. We work well with other organizations in the community also to help these people get back on their feet."

Penner thanks everyone who came to the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue to support Today House.
