A spokesperson for Steinbach Community Christmas says it was an amazing Toys Days this week.

For two days, residents of the southeast dropped by our toy train at Canadian Tire, donating toys for those in need.

"We had an awesome Toys Days," says Toy Coordinator Joanne Dyck. "(I) came in this morning and opened the back door of the trailer and it was just packed, completely full, it's amazing."

According to Dyck, the donations dropped off Wednesday and Thursday at Canadian Tire filled between 55 and 60 large garbage bags. She says it looks like "Toys Days" donations were up over last year.

"I do feel like it was a bit more, that trailer was packed full," she says.

However, Dyck says the need is great this year and they still need more toys. She expects they will probably hand out approximately 1,500 toys this month with their hamper deliveries. Dyck says they could still use a lot of gifts for teenage boys and girls. She notes some ideas are gift cards, makeup, hair accessories, journals, water bottles, blankets, pillows, Bluetooth speakers, headphones or sporting equipment.

Dyck admits there is some fear that they will not have enough toys to hand out this Christmas. She calls it a huge community effort to pull this off.

"We can't do anything if people don't donate toys and food and money," she says. "So it's always amazing to see the community come together and work together."

Hamper deliveries begin next week Wednesday.
