Manitoba Infrastructure has begun the task of putting up traffic control signals at the Highway 52 and Industrial Road intersection in Steinbach.

The project was announced in February and then one month later, a two vehicle crash there claimed the life of a 20-year-old man.

Regional Construction Engineer A.J. Miller says they have just completed construction of a berm to support one of the new signal lights. He notes the underground contractor is planning to mobilize the site later this week or early next week, which should then kick the project into high gear.

"The signal lights will be operational sometime this fall," notes Miller.

But he says it is difficult to be more precise because there are so many different crews that will come in at various stages to complete the work.

Miller says he does not expect there will be any significant traffic disruptions during construction. That is because this project only calls for the installation of signal lights and no change to the lanes on the highway.

A dollar figure for the work has not been made available.
