A semi-truck driver has been charged after accidentally driving in the oncoming lane of the TransCanada Highway.

At around 7:40 PM Tuesday evening Steinbach RCMP responded to reports of a transport truck driving in the wrong direction down Highway 1 in the RM of Ste. Anne. Realizing his mistake, police say the driver attempted a U-turn just east of Highway 12 but the vehicle jackknifed and became stuck in the roadside's soft shoulder, fully blocking both lanes of westbound traffic.

RCMP say The 53-year-old driver from Montreal, Quebec, was issued a $672 ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for Driving Carelessly.

The truck became stuck in the middle of Highway 1 after attempting a U-turn.
