Two people have been charged after evading police early Saturday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. RCMP Traffic Services attempted to stop a vehicle driving erratically on Provincial Road 207 just west of Lorette, but it sped off into the Town of Lorette, and RCMP note the pursuit was discontinued.

The vehicle then drove off the road and the driver abandoned the vehicle by a nearby apartment complex. Officers searched the vehicle and found a small amount of crystal meth as well as a few edged weapons.

Members of the community directed officers to one of the passengers in the vehicle who was arrested without incident. After stealing a bicycle, the driver of the vehicle was found and attempted to provide a false name to the police.

Police have charged the 19-year-old female passenger, Kassandra Beatrice Hunter of Lorette, with Theft Under $5000, Failing to Appear in Court, and with Failing to Comply with a Recognizance. She has been remanded into custody.

The 22-year-old driver, Julius Rey Harper of Winnipeg, has been charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public, and with Identity Fraud with Intent to Evade Apprehension. He has also been remanded into custody.

The RCMP Traffic Services along with the St. Pierre RCMP Detachment continue to investigate.
