RCMP have released more information about the serious collision just west of Mitchell around 10:15 Friday morning.

Police say three vehicles were directly involved in the collision. A westbound gravel truck was stopped on the highway waiting for eastbound traffic to pass by before making a left turn. A second westbound vehicle stopped behind the gravel truck and was subsequently rear-ended by a third westbound vehicle pushing the second vehicle into oncoming traffic. The vehicle did not hit the gravel truck but was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The drivers of both the eastbound vehicle and the westbound vehicle that was pushed into oncoming traffic were taken to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate. As of 4:30 P.M., Highway 52 was fully reopened.
