The City of Steinbach has many projects on the go for this summer, and as soon as school is out, the intersection of McKenzie Avenue and Chapel Drive will be re-done.

The McKenzie Avenue and Chapel Drive intersection will get new asphalt this summer. Phil Kalyta, the City's head engineer says because of the high volume of trucks and buses through that intersection, it's starting to deteriorate and has developed ruts. "To improve the ride-ability through that intersection, we will do a quick grind, make it black, and smooth again."

Kalyta says the project won't take very long to complete and he looks forward to having the work done in early July, so it'll be ready to go before school starts up again in September.

Another paving project the City will focus on, is the service road on the east side of Steinbach, in front of Steinbach Towing, Co-op Gas Bar, and OK Tire. "The residents fronting that service road would like to see it paved. Right now it's gravel, so the City is working together with them to get that work done."

Kalyta says the project shouldn't take more than three weeks and is currently up for tender. He notes residents in the area will be notified before any work gets underway.
