There has been vandalism at the Friedensfeld Community Centre south of Steinbach. Board member Karl Schoenrock says a number of their structures have been defaced with graffiti.

"It started last week Monday, overnight, there were a bunch of tags painted on the hall itself, the outside bathrooms toward the park and also one of our (baseball) dugouts."

The vandals struck again Wednesday night or early Thursday this week. Schoenrock says the graffiti contains a variety of messages.

"They're spray-painting a little bit of everything. One acronym is relating to something anti-police that doesn't say some very nice things at the end of it. There are backwards swastikas, there's profanity, multiple symbols, multiple colours, multiple areas they're doing it so it's becoming a real problem."

Schoenrock says they are doing their best to remove the graffiti with a special material but says it tends to also eat the paint behind it, leaving a shadow image. He expects they'll end up having to repaint entire walls.

Schoenrock asks anyone who sees suspicious activity at Friedensfeld Community Centre to immediately contact RCMP immediately.
