The head of Steinbach Public Works hopes the worst is behind us as far as drainage issues during spring thaw. Ice-plugged culverts have caused localized flooding in recent weeks at a number locations in the city. But Randy Reimer says water is flowing better now that temperatures are rising.

"Things seem to be improving somewhat. We still have had, along the Hespeler drain, a little bit of trouble with chunks of ice blocking a couple of the culverts where it caused a little more flow onto Mckenzie Avenue. But some of the water coming from the southeast is slowing starting to subside a bit, at least on the Hespeler drain. We still have the Hirschfeld drain running pretty full, which is causing a little bit of a problem on the East End Service road, but things are starting to look a little better."

He says, if the weather stays mild for the next two or three days, we will start to see a decrease in water coming from the south through the Hirschfeld drain. And Reimer adds, as long as there is not a lot of rain in the next two weeks, things look good.

"It doesn't look like we've got a lot of precipitation in the forecast over the next two weeks so I think we are going to see some positive changes in the next three or four days."
