The Chair of the Local Urban District Committee of Grunthal says there are two capital projects they would like to tackle in 2019. But, Anita Funk says they must first have their budget approved by Hanover council.

Funk explains they have a tentative budget in place. It calls for the mil rate to remain the same as in 2018. However, because of growth, they would bring in more money without needing to raise taxes.

Funk says one of the projects they would like to accomplish this year is reconstruction of Wiens Road.

"This is something that the previous LUD committee had in their plans but it never did happen," notes Funk. "So it's going to move forward in 2019, assuming council approves it."

The cost of this project is estimated at $251,000. Funk explains they have already received a grant for $100,000 from Hanover to help cover the cost, while the rest would come from reserves.

The second project being planned for this year is construction of an asphalt sidewalk along Maple Avenue from Park Street to Wiens Road.

"That is to accommodate all the new development that has happened there in recent years," she says. "And so that the kids have a sidewalk to use when they are walking to school."

If approved, this project will cost about $51,000. Funk says it will be paid through reserves.

Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover is expected to approve its 2019 budget some time in April. The LUD of Grunthal budget will be included in that.
