Local athlete Greg Penner is off to Whistler BC this weekend to compete in the Iron Man competition. Being from the flat prairies, it's hard to train to run up and down mountains
Swim just under 4 km or 2,5 mile
Bike 180 km or 112 miles
Run 42 km or 26 miles
You have 17 hours to finish. He says the 4th discipline of the Iron Man is to fuel up on the go. Learning to eat while you run and cycle is a bit tricky but necessary to keep going. Penner also says that this course has had bears spotted every year along the way. (don't be the slowest runner and you should be safe from the bears)
