The Provincial High School Badminton Championships wrapped up Saturday at Sport Manitoba in downtown Winnipeg. Raquel Long & Mika Rasmussen of Pinawa finished fifth in girls doubles; Lachlan Cuthbert & Jaedys Dancyt of Lac du Bonnet lost in the consolation semifinals in boys doubles while Lauren Evason & Alek Ouimet of Gabrielle Roy lost in the consolation quarterfinals in mixed doubles.


Canada will face the United States in the gold medal games today (10 a.m.) at the 2024 World U18 Hockey Championship in Espoo, Finland. Tig Iginla and Ryder Ritchie each had a goal and an assist as Team Canada edged Sweden 5-4. The US downed Slovakia 7-2 in the other semifinal.


Kaleigh Fratkin scored the game-winning goal with just 1:20 remaining in the third period as Boston beat Montreal 4-3. With the victory, Boston clinches one of the final two PWHL playoff positions after Minnesota lost 5-2 to New York earlier in the day. The regular season schedule ends Sunday. Ottawa can clinch the final postseason position and would finish in third spot with a regulation win in Toronto.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 9-3 decision to the Lincoln Saltdogs. Ryan Holgate had three hits for the Fish who will play their third of five pre-season games today (1 p.m.) against the Saltdogs. Winnipeg will open the 2024 American Association season on May 9th in Texas against the Cleburne Railroaders. The Goldeyes home opener is Tuesday, May 21st versus the Chicago Dogs.
