Representatives from the Association of Manitoba Municipalities have a full schedule this week, visiting at least 15 different municipalities across the Southeast.

AMM President Chris Goertzen says the focus this week is to hear one on one about the challenges municipalities face and about their relationship with the Provincial Government. “Periodically throughout the year we make those connections with our municipalities so we understand the challenges they are facing and to see if we can help them overcome those.”

The AMM represents all 137 municipalities in Manitoba, and Goertzen says it's important for the government to see the municipalities as a true partner in delivering government services across Manitoba. “When it comes to the development of policy and development of regulation, if they include us as a true partner in consultation we can help them create better policy.”

So far with our new Provincial Government, Goertzen says they've had an open dialogue and are pleased with how they have been treating municipalities.

The week started off for the AMM with visits in Ste. Anne and will conclude later this week in the RM of Ritchot on Friday.
