The Steinbach Fire Department was called to a four-vehicle collision on Highway 12 in front of Superstore at approximately 5:15pm Tuesday.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Mike Penner says the first vehicle had stopped at the traffic lights just before the construction zone in the southbound lane of Highway 12 and the three other vehicle collided bumper to bumper behind it.

Penner says a number of people were transported to hospital as a precaution.

“We had one van full of three young children and mom and dad they are going to get transported to get looked at, two of the younger ones were complaining of some neck head pains, and then we had an elderly couple, they were going to get checked out also.”

Penner says the drivers and occupants of the other two vehicles signed refusals and were released at the scene of the collision. He notes southbound Highway 12 was down to one lane for approximately 40 minutes while firefighters cleaned up leaking fluids. He adds two of the vehicles were towed.
