Niverville has a new town councillor. Nathan Dueck won a by-election yesterday getting 278 of the 517 votes that were cast. The by-election became necessary when John Falk resigned in spring to run in the provincial election. Falk placed second Wednesday with 174 votes and Louise Billows was third with 65 votes.

Dueck tells us how he feels about the outcome.

"Overall really good. I'm quite happy with the results. A lot of people have told me a lot of hard work goes a long way and I would highly recommend that. I did knock on a lot of houses, I did do my absolute best to introduce myself to almost everybody that I possibly could, given the time restraints of the by-election. I feel it was time invested, time rewarded."

Dueck says his main goal is to do the best job possible of representing the people of Niverville on town council including better communication and more transparency.

"I am not doing this for my own good, I am doing this for the benefit of others. That is first and foremost and it's going to remain a focus of my life while I'm on town council. The other thing that the town, after talking to a lot of people, they are really, really, really, really looking and crying out for better communication and better transparency, which is one of the reasons I ran in the first place. We have to find a better way of involving people in this town with what is going on from the day-to-day business."

Dueck adds he is excited to bring a voice to town council that it may or may not have heard in the past. He believes better communication and more transparency about Niverville politics will open the door to getting more residents involved in their town and the dealings of town council.
