The Niverville Fire Department was called to a residence on Claremont Drive that was struck by lightning Wednesday evening.

Deputy Fire Chief Brad Wasilinchuk says they were called to 43 Claremont Drive at around 9:30 p.m.

“The lightning had just struck the corner of the roof on the one end of the house, not a lot of damage. There was a bit of fire but actually, the homeowner had put it out with a fire extinguisher before we got there.”

Wasilinchuk says there was some damage to the roof that will need repair. He notes the homeowner was able to get his family out of the house before putting out the fire.
