The high energy Operation Red Nose volunteers had a great reason to celebrate this weekend.

The 32 volunteers supplied a record breaking number of rides on Friday and Saturday evenings. They provided 62 safe rides and collected a record breaking donation of $1,718.

According to Spokesperson Mariette Kirouac, "There must have been something in the air, because the super high energy of our volunteers was amazing, we laughed all night. We have radios that we use for the volunteer drivers to communicate with dispatch. Those radios were 'hot' with all kinds of jokes, puns and teasing while they were working, and boy did they work hard."

Kirouac says 100% of the money received on the weekend will go to the Ecole St. Joachim School fundraising project. "Operation Red Nose has a mandate that all money raised goes to youth in Canada. In La Broquerie the money is going to Ecole St. Joachim parent council because they are in phase three of building a green park connecting the school grounds to the arena, so this will be a community and school project. The costs of running Operation Red Nose are covered by our generous sponsors."

Kirouac says the volunteers were surprised by a homemade meal delivery. "Our volunteers had a wonderful surprise when someone from the community gave us a homemade meal that we enjoyed at  4a.m. An outstanding moment over the weekend was when on two different occasions, two different people, in two different locations gave us a total of $220 for the good work ORN does.  You can see why our volunteers truly enjoy Operation Red Nose."

"On average we raise anywhere from $600-$800 on a weekend. We are now expecting New Year's Eve to be a big celebration for us. It's safe to say we'll need at least 10 more volunteer drivers for December 31st."

Kirouac adds, "In the meantime, we look forward to our last night Thursday December 31st, and invite you to call Operation Red Nose from 9 pm - 3 am and we will safely drive you and your vehicle home if you live in the La Broquerie, Steinbach and surrounding communities."
