Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) is moving ahead with their plan to widen Highway 52 and add turning lanes at the entrance of La Broquerie.

Manitoba infrastructure didn't make any changes to their plan after presenting to council.

They plan to improve the ditch and drainage in the area and relocate the access to the Shell gas station from Highway 52 to Des Pignons Street.

La Broquerie Reeve Ivan Normandeau says overall, council is happy with the plans.

“Any improvement is good. And obviously we would like to have more paved roads, but we understand that we can't get everything, so we're happy with the plan.”

He notes that technically, the province doesn’t need council to approve the plans.

“The province can do what they want because it's their highway, but they want the support of the RM at the same time. They just want to make sure we're supportive, and they're doing the right job, but technically they can do what they want and move forward.”

It is still uncertain when the province will start construction, but Normandeau guesses it will be this fall or early spring next year.
