The St. Agathe Arena will receive $45,000 from the Canada 150 Community Build Fund.

Provencher MP Ted Falk says the Canada 150 Community funding is a set aside for community and cultural projects.

“Canada 150 Community Funding was initiated as a celebration for our 150th birthday as a country. We are going to be celebrating that in 2017 and we are very excited to do that. What we did is we started up this Canada 150 fund, which is 150 million dollars committed to infrastructure projects in communities that celebrate community or culture and distributed that right across the country.”

President of the St. Agathe Arena Board Committee Martin Lemoine says the money will go towards an addition for their Zamboni room.

“We have been advised by the health and safety committee from the Richot municipality that there is a health and safety issue with the current room. It's been a need for a few years and we have been focusing on it for a good part of this year.”

Lemoine says they hope to start construction in April of 2016 and be finished mid summer for the following season.

Lemoine notes it was exciting to be able to apply for a federal funding and was nice to have Ted Falk come out and announce the successful grant.

Falk says Provencher as a whole got just under $450,000 for projects in the riding. He notes Club Ile-des-Chenes, also in the R.M. Of Richot, will receive almost $44,000 for renovations in the Ile-des-Chenes/Grande Pointe Arena.

Falk says it is always fun to be the bearer of good news and present communities with funding. He notes it is important to continue to invest in infrastructure that brings communities together and continues to strengthen them.

Also under the Canada 150 Build Fund the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach will be receiving $100,000 for the rehabilitation of the Waldheim House roof, Ste. Anne will receive $62,000 for a splash pad and skate park, and the Town of Niverville will receive $56,000 to expand their splash pad.

There are a total of 13 communities in Provencher receiving funding from the Canada 150 Build Fund.
