The Mayor of Steinbach says the city will benefit from a streamlined application process for provincial grants. Chris Goertzen is referring to the single window application system announced by the Manitoba Government Thursday. Goertzen says this replaces a complicated system of four application streams and is intended to cut red tape.

"For staff and the city, it's going to mean a simplified process. Hopefully, for the province, it's going to mean that it's going to be simpler and more cost-effective for them as well. We think this is a good thing for the City of Steinbach and we look forward to applying for a number of grants through this process for municipal roads and for other aspects we see as important."

Goertzen notes the city has proposals ready to go and won't waste any time in making applications.

"We have a number of things in the queue and we will certainly be looking for that partnership with the provincial government for the City of Steinbach. This application process is complete at the end of August and we hope to see announcements come shortly after that."
